Miami Law Presents Sneaker Law Course

The University of Miami School of Law launched a first of its kind sneaker law course this spring offering insight into the $90 billion sneaker industry.
The full week-long course was delivered through the school’s LL.M. in entertainment, arts and sports law. It was taught by adjunct faculty members Kenneth Anand and Jared Goldstein, authors of the book “Sneaker Law: Everything You Need to Know About the Sneaker Business.”
Anand, co-founder of SNEAKER LAW, is the former business development manager and general counsel for YEEZY Apparel, a fashion and design company owned and operated by Kanye West and currently co-founder of the 3 8 0 group. Goldstein, also co-founder of SNEAKER LAW, is legal counsel at LiveIntent, an advertising technology and marketing company.
Students learned about building a sneaker brand, LLCs and corporations, brands, design and manufacturing, distribution and licensing, marketing and promotion, aftermarket and the counterfeit. In one component of the course, students participated in a hands-on simulation to negotiate a full sneaker or sneaker license agreement.
“Their approach to this industry, replete with complex legal and business issues, reflects our program’s approach to staying relevant with trends and providing students with competency-based learning opportunities to hone their transactional law skills that are so critical to the industry,” said Greg Levy, director of the LL.M. in entertainment, arts and sports law. at law school.
